About the WriterTameka Norris is the thirty-something writer of Cursed Ground. Cursed Ground is a result of her love for classic fiction, such as Jane Eyre, Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion. She aspires to be a great storyteller and hopes to bring classic-type fiction to the front and center for women of color. On the side, her more practical achievements consist of working at home on her business Furniture-for-Small-Spaces.com, in order to finance her creative ambitions. She’ll also admit to having a less than ideal social life due to having, what she would call, greedy determination. She seems to have such single-minded determination about succeeding that sometimes she forgets to “have a life.” However, this doesn’t mean she isn’t aware of the most important things in life: love, family and friends. In her spare time, she dreams of doing missionary work and starting a non-profit organization (or something to that effect) since helping people is also a great part of her personal make-up. And on a similar note, her desire also extends to adopting a child, or possibly two, in the near or distant future. She has a love of animals (especially her dog Val, when he’s not getting on her nerves) and hopes to one day have a horse farm. Her tastes tend to lean toward books over movies, classical music over pop, country life over city life, and obviously period pieces over contemporary fiction. She’ll admit that one of her favorite songs (in the whole wide world) is Henryk Gorecki’s “Symphony of Sorrowful Songs.” She’ll even go so far as to admit that it’s inspired her to come up with another story idea because the song(s) moved her to tears on many occasions. A few of her “hopeful” hobbies are to someday learn how to play the piano, learn tap dance, ballroom dance and hip hop dance. On a fun and personal note, she admits she’s fickle about watching television series because “they’re like five year movies… they go on and on” and she just can’t stand to watch something that feels like it will never end. To date, she only watches movies and the occasional series like “Law and Order” or “CSI” because they don’t make her feel “addicted like a drug” and each episode “ends on its own accord without dragging into the next.” She will, however, watch a series on DVD because “all of it’s there and there’s a clear ending in sight.” She’s forthright about saying she loves cartoons and often finds cartoons more clever than basic programs. But all in all, she admits she doesn’t like to watch TV much in spite of her somewhat contrary desire to create visual stories, such as movies and plays. Her obvious, yet current creative ambitions are to bring Cursed Ground a mediocre amount of success (at the very least) and have a hell of a time doing it! |
